Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019 – On Monday, May 20th, we received news of the release of 100 persons being held as political prisoners in Nicaragua, 8 of whom are women: Aleyda del Socorro Castro Membreño, María Adilia Peralta Cerrato, Jeysi Junieth Lagos, Yamileth del Carmen Gutiérrez Moncada, Tania Verónica Muñoz Pavón, Kenia María Gutiérrez Gómez, Kysha Cristelia López and Carolina Gutiérrez.

Different actors are involved in human rights violations committed against human rights defenders, but based on Urgent Action Fund - Asia & Pacific’s (UAF A&P) recent bi-annual data analysis, state actors are the main perpetrators of violations against women and non-binary human rights activists in the Asia and Pacific regions.
